Why did we invest?
E-learning and online digital classes are a huge growth area, as demonstrated by the growth of the US based platform Masterclass that was started in 2014 with the idea of having well-known, predominantly US, experts in their field become e-learning instructors. A wealth of globally recognized UK expert instructors, coupled with the prestige of the BBC brand, provided an enormous opportunity for a new player to enter the market. Designed in partnership with BBC Studios, BBC Maestro offers courses taught by some of the world’s leading creators, with the initial talent roster at the point of investment including Gary Barlow, David Walliams, Jed Mercurio and Marco Pierre White.
